Additionally, Mrs. Michelle McGee, an Ouachita River School District Science teacher, has been chosen as the nominee to represent DMESC for the 2025 AREA Teacher of the Year. People worldwide come together to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day by wearing brightly colored, mismatched socks. March 21 is symbolic because people with Down syndrome have 3 copies of their 21st chromosome. Socks were chosen because the karyotype of Down syndrome chromosomes actually looks like mismatched socks!

Mr. Houston Taylor, the Medicaid In The Schools (MITS) Northwest Regional Advisor for ADE, presented Personal Care Services Practical Training for the SPED paraprofessionals and school nurses at DMESC.
